Below are Smpte services :

1 . Education as a Foundation Role :

Among the many important things SMPTE does is provide access to education and professional development tools that advance the technical expertise of our members.

This education comes in a variety of forms.  From Section meetings, to conference programming, the Motion Imaging Journal and, under the Professional Development Academy (PDA) umbrella, services such as  one-day focused, onsite seminars, educational webcasts – both live and on-demand – SMPTE programs enable members to learn about relevant technologies and, in turn, help them to keep pace with our ever-evolving industry.

Professional Development Academy Includes :

Upcoming and Previous Webcasts

- Live, interactive, one-hour educational webcasts on relevant, top-of-mind technologies
- Archive of past educational webcasts

Standards Update Webcasts

- The standards development process is crucial to the motion imaging industry.
- Learn about SMPTE Standards by participating in this unique opportunity "peak under the hood"

2 . Publications Provide Expert Understanding of Technology :

1 ) SMPTE Digital Library:

Access to the digital content is through http://library.smpte.org

A. SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal:

Published eight times annually, the SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal is a view in the technical world of motion imaging science. Each issue covers a special topic including file-based workflow, compression, 3D, audio, distribution formats, advances in lighting, sustainability, digital cinema and much more

Periodically published wall charts add insight into a very complex technical domain .

Special issues include wrap-ups from various SMPTE conference events, including the SMPTE Annual Technical Conference and the Technology Summit on Cinema held annually at the NAB Show. Each September, the Progress Report is published which provides a valuable overview of the latest industry developmentswithaparticularfocus on the standards community work.

B.ConferencePapers:

SMPTE conference events provide the industry with the latest technical content. Peer-reviewed and focused on current technical problems.

SMPTE conferencesare must-attend events.

C. Standards:

SMPTE is the leading standards development body for motion imaging standards. Individuals and organizations from around the world come to SMPTE to developstandards that are adopted by manufacturers, broadcasters and studios.

2) Newsletters and Opinions:

Helping the industry navigate the complex technologies within the growing media landscape is one of SMPTE's strengths. We deliver insights in digestible formats that help our members better understand the digital media ecosystem.

Newswatch e-newsletter — a monthly topical communique written by Michael Goldman.  Each month, Michael highlights a hot topic and dives right in, providing a quick, yet highly informative, read on today's hot discussion topics.

Industry Perspectives — opinion pieces that provide a perspective on a particular hot industry topic.  Experts share their insights and provide another view into complex topics of the day.

3 ) 3D Cinema and Television Technology: The First 100 Years

Edited by Michael D.Smith, Peter Lude and Bill Hogan

With Introductions by Ray Zone

This compendium contains 55 papers published in the SMPTE Journal from 1919 through 2010.  These historic papers provide a foundation for understanding the current innovations in 3D stereoscopic areas including acquisition, content creation, exhibition, distribution and display technology.

Edited by Michael D. Smith, Peter Lude and Bill Hogan, the papers in this book contain a wealth of information on the transformation of 3D from its early days of experimentation to current application in media and entertainment.  This book will serve as an important reference tool in any technical library.

4) Wallcharts

Wall charts are periodically published in the SMPTE Motion Imaging and contain information that may be used as reference. These charts illustrate SMPTE standards, workflow processes, or technology issues and provide advertisers the opportunity to associate their companies with a particular topic.
